Diary of an Edinburgher

New boots?

JR went off to the gym, and I got the washing hung out in the sun and pottered about in the front garden. Libby and her new flatmate came to pick Archie up, much to his excitement. The flatmate is studying fine arts, but can’t go in to the college. She (and everyone else) has to do painting and any art work in their flat! Doesn’t seem right - the art college is full of huge big rooms with plenty of space, but they’re not allowed in. Well, they can book a room for a day, but have to drag all their gear to and fro. Both girls said that their fellow students are not behaving sensibly, with no social distancing whatsoever.

Christine came round and she and JR walked into town, while I got the bus and met them at the restaurant. We went to the Thai restaurant again. Fabulous food, nicely served, lovely service. Check out the starters, steamed shrimps with rice noodles and chilli jam, and vegetarian spring rolls with a satay dip (Extras). I could NOT resist a desert - black rice pudding with coconut ice cream. Yum yum yum.

The others went off shopping after lunch - these are new boots, which I think are going back tomorrow morning in favour of the other ones she liked, though Archie obviously thought these ones were smashing.

I headed for the licorice shop and a Prêt coffee. But my bus was just coming, and that is just too good to pass up, so I hopped on it and came home instead - Archie was here with his bone. Besides, the boiler man was coming because the remote control has gone mad and the heating comes on in the middle of the night.

However, I was nearly home when the boiler folk rang to put it off till tomorrow. Fine. In fact, extremely fine, because then I could call in on Mary as she was sitting outside in the sun. She’s had a big operation, and isn’t managing very well now, but her family are taking good care of her.

Just caught the last 30km of the cycling, then the Repair Shop. Archie was still happy with his bone when I came home.

I have drunk 2 litres of water again today.
