Enigma
I've borrowed Robert's title for this totally amazing piece of rock art, discovered seven years ago in a wildly scenic spot just outside Ballydehob - here's what he has to say about it. This afternoon we had the privilege of visiting it again, again in Robert and Finola's company plus two of their friends. It is in the most stupendous spot, a natural amphitheatre with views out to hills, very tough to get too as you squelch through bog, bracken, heathers, gorse and scabious. But what a find. It's in remarkable condition as it has been covered by vegetation for centuries, possibly millenia, but since the years that it has been rediscovered, erosion is already apparent. It's a mass of cupmarks, spirals, concentric circles, straight lines, wavy lines and even some squares. What it all means is open to wide conjecture. Roughly 5000 years old!
After all that we then went on to Levis' in Ballydehob for a Mexican meal! They have been inventive and got round Covid measure by occasionally having food - a truck has appeared and for 12 nights excellent Mexican food is available, all rigorously within the correct measures - table booked, no more than 6, - and very delicious, colourful and inventive it was too. Packed as well, and the sun finally peeked out.
