Yesterday when I went out on my bike I noticed a bit of a problem. Not having the correct tools to deal with it I took it in to the repair shop this morning. The repair shop is just on the other side of the ship canal in Latchford. I have to go back tomorrow to collect my bike so I had to walk back home.

I took this murky shot of the Latchford railway viaduct and locks looking east from the Knutsford Road swing bridge. There are a number of swing bridges across the canal in this area which, even today with very light traffic on the canal, cause hold ups when they are open. Or should that be closed?

Between the Knutsford Road bridge and the London Road Bridge is the high level cantilever bridge which, it is said, was built at the insistence of Thomas Parr, an eminent local banker and major shareholder in the Ship Canal Company, so that his coach would not be held up on his daily commute between his home, Grappenhall Heys, and his office in Warrington.
