Out and about
A night out! Very rare these days, I can't remember the last time we went out to an evening event.
The presentation of the season normally takes place at the Espace Culturel itself, with tents outside for the food. This year, thanks to Covid, it was a physically distanced event held outdoors. Our German friend M had lent his, er, garden for the occasion. Actually a park so large that there was room and to spare for 350 people (yes, the sheep had been removed).
It was all very well organised. It started with a one-man-show Pourquoi les poules préfèrent être élevées en batterie, in which a "professor" explains why hens like living in battery farms, and which came first, the chicken or the egg. He also egged the audience on to imitate hens at various stages of their lives, and finished with an outing into the philosophy of Spinoza. All very French. It was a little bit too long and would probably have seemed less so if we'd had a few drinks first.
Then Alan presented short video clips of the upcoming shows before we all headed to the tents and physically distanced tables set up behind us, for the usual bunfight (extra). No fighting over large platters of food this time, individual servings were plated up, and serving staff came round to top up wine. It was a warm, windless evening, so even after dark it was still very pleasant. Home at 10:30, temperature still 24C.
