Diary of an Edinburgher

The Tower!

Being very good tourists, we were up and out by 9am pounding the streets. No, we got a bus. Buses are great - we have avoided the Tube so far. Even at rush hour, buses are not busy. You get to see lots more! The 11 bus is a great one, going by lots of landmarks.

Our destination was the London Museum. JR had been there in the 70s and remembered being stunned and amazed. And it's free. It's an amazing place, tracing the history of London from the beginning. The artefacts that have been found are amazing.

We were there a couple of hours. There were a couple of school groups. One of the groups was older and had clipboards and were actually finding out things. But the other group, possibly the whole infant school, were running rampant throughout the place, yelling and generally being little horrors. I was amazed at how they were allowed to behave.

More touristy things in the afternoon. The Tower. Another big contribution to the upkeep of the roof. Another guided tour full of facts that I can't remember. But it was good that we did indoor things today, as the weather was perishing!

We got a bus up to Spitalfields Market, and had fish and chips in a super place (plaice) that our pals had recommended. Excellent fish supper, brilliant cafe - with a jukebox and (quiet) 50s music. Loved it.

I really really wanted to go back down to Tower Bridge for an evening blip, having carried my tripod around all day. But it was SO cold, and we were SO tired, that we just got the 11 bus back home.

Not keeping up with commenting, sorry. Being out all day and too stuffed in the evenings to do anything but lie down and gaze at TV.

This holiday lark is quite tiring!
