Caen Hill (Monday 7th September 2020)

This is possibly not the sleekest Robin I have ever come across. Perhaps it is a juvenile. I had been visiting C. in Trowbridge in the afternoon and parked up in Marsh Lane on the way home in the early evening. Instead of walking up the lock staircase I walked west towards Foxhangers, and, to my surprise, found another pair of swans grazing on grass at Lock 25. In between them, watching Batman and Batgirl was this Robin.
The theme of Mono Monday this week was Over And Under and I did prepare a picture for it (see Extra), but the Robin won out. In any case by the time I had processed all the pictures I took yesterday, the deadline had passed.

Marvin Gaye - Lucky Lucky Me (Original 1965 Version) (recorded between 27 January 1965 and 9 April 1965, Hitsville Studio, Detroit MI)
Marvin Gaye recorded this in between sessionsfor A Tribute To The Great Nat King Cole and Moods Of Marvin Gaye. There are some great vocalisings by the Andantes, James Jamerson's bubbling bass lines and Joe Hunter's piano, but it didn't get passed Berry Gordy's audition process and languished in the vaults until 1994. Marvin Gaye had another stab at the song a year later (Version Two), slicker, cleaner and not so good, and it too was unreleased at the time.
The song was extensively remixed with additional production by Ray Hayden in 1994 and issued on a CD single that included Version Two and The '65 Ragga Vibe Mix of Version One with a rap by Junior Dangerous of Suspended Sentence. As always, the original is the greatest and I rediscovered it on a Marvin Gaye compilation from 1996 called Early Classics.
