Königssee

As one of our last weekends in Munich, we absolutely had to go to the Alps and we went a bit further usual to Königssee, right on the border with Austria not far from the Eagle's Nest. For 15 euros, you can take the Bayern ticket for a three hour journey there and three hour journey back but it was certainly worth it.

At the beginning I wasn't sure, it seemed very touristy and there were hordes of people queueing up for ferries. The trail was also pretty packed because it was 26 degrees and everyone had come to the mountains. But after two minutes I suggested that we take a tiny, unsignposted path that had a van parked in front and looked like it might be the back entrance for the workers. After about 5 minutes we hit the most gorgeous empty spot by the lake, and when people occasionally did arrive they sheepishly turned thinking that it was Our Spot.
