Permissive path
The road that runs from Sedbergh down to Devil's Bridge can be a rather busy one. At the height of the lockdown, though, it was pretty much deserted and Dan and I used to walk along it on our way back from Casterton. At first, we might not see a single car but as the lockdown eased and it reached the point where we were seeing a dozen cars, we stopped using it.
It's not so bad if you're on your own and running but it's still not a pleasant part of any run. I use it mainly as part of my route back from Barbon although only as far as Casterton where I return to the back roads. However, a landowner has just set up a 'permissive path' which reduces my time on the road significantly. I'm not sure how much use it'll get but I'm grateful for it.
In the afternoon, the Minx and I took a leisurely drive up the A6 from Kendal up to Penrith, where we visited Potfest, which is a pottery festival (and not some hippie idyl). There were some amazing pieces on show: so many talented people! The Minx had been hoping to buy some equipment for her own pottery making but someone had missed an opportunity and there was none on sale so she satisfied herself in drawing inspiration from other people's works instead.
After that, we eschewed the M6 once again, driving east on the A66 and then cutting down through Kirkby Stephen, where we had a very satisfying lunch, and Sedbergh.
