Sunday: Kitwanga Church

We departed Smithers this morning for our last longer car journey of this holiday.  It was a beautiful drive to Prince Rupert - even though it was overcast and rainy in parts we could still see it was stunning.

We stopped off in the village of Kitwanga so see their 50 or so carved poles but couldn’t actually do so, as they are located on First Nations’ land and they have closed access to their community, due to COVID.  So it was not to be.

We’re staying in an Airbnb in Prince Rupert and are now happy to kick back for a few days.  So far, Prince Rupert isn’t quite as picturesque as we’d been led to believe and, apart from a small section called Cow Bay, it feels a little rundown. We will set about discovering its charms over the next few days.

That said, any place with a microbrewery can’t be bad so down to ‘Wheelhouse Brewing’ it was where we got chatting to some very pleasant locals.
