Reading Round and About
Here in Mull we have a local monthly publication which is full of news, happenings, events and occasions and gives an interesting snapshot of life on the island and neighbouring Iona. Quite some time ago, I volunteered to be a 'reader' so that the magazine could be accessed by those who have a visual impairment. There are four of us who share the articles between us so I spent this wet and windy afternoon recording myself reading my allocation of articles and emailing the recordings to the compiler of the audio version of Round and About, ready to distribute to folk on the island who want it.
There are some very interesting articles in this month's issue, including one entitled "Fear and Contagion in Mull in 1891" which tells about the awful way in which some folk were treated by their neighbours because they had been in contact with folk who had died from typhus. There was great fear of catching this awful illness......sounds familiar?
