It’s started.

The demolition of Albany Park; University of St Andrews student accommodation directly next to the East Sands beach. I remember it opening in the 1970s; it compromised around 340 single rooms for students in flat and pitched roofed blocks - just a stones throw from the beach. I can recall visiting friends here not long after it all opened! There’s clearly been a significant shift in student requirements and expectations since the 1970s and this site is part of a long running project to replace older accommodation. The plan for here, (latest iteration), is to create more than 750 bedrooms in a modern residential campus. There’s other modern University accommodation nearby and at North Haugh, and to the West.

We’d a local walk between the fields and around the loch this morning. Not much happening. That’s fine. I read a bit outside and then watched the First Minister’s daily briefing; 160 new cases, several clusters, less than 1% of those tested. But is alarming. First Minister is concerned; been a measured relaxation - it’s up to the public now really. 160 days into lockdown - we’re now at close to maximum relaxation of Phase 3 restrictions.

Older son off for the Bank Holiday. Climbed a hill in the Trossachs. The teachers were at work. He’s usually working when they’re off!

Had a WhatsApp chat with a friend that I used to work with; a great guy. He seemed well.
