Hovering
I like being out with my camera in the early hours of the day when the light is dramatic. I had to do some faffing on this image as it was perhaps a little too dark, but I like the way it came out. Of the three adult male hummers that are here right now, this one has the best plumage, although you can see some pin feathers around his bill if you look closely enough. Shutter at 1/640 so some nice wing blur happening.
Hubs and I took the kayak out late morning to one of the nearby lakes. We fiddled a little getting it inflated, but eventually it was water-worthy and we set off. This time I took a camera in a dry-bag to see what photography from the kayak would be like. I'm happy to report that it worked great! I got us nestled into some lily pads and grabbed some shots of water skimmers. Didn't realize until I got home that I'd managed to get some decent bug porn! See Extra.
Also in Extra is a shot of our tandem kayak.
Had a nice long chat with bestie, Peg, this afternoon. Always good to catch up. Hoping to be able to see her in person in late September. Like me, she is being very cautious these days, which makes getting together a much less risky proposition.
Mom and Dad were on the OR coast today doing a walk and enjoying some fresh clam chowder outside. I love getting daily texts from my dad with photos of wherever they happen to be. It doesn't quite make up for not being able to spend in-person time with them, but it makes me feel somewhat closer. For me, this is one of the suckiest part of this virus.
Keep being safe, and being kind, and being loving.
