Neototems
Neototems is the name of the artwork at the Seattle center that kids love to climb. The kids call it "whale backs". It's actually a mother/calf design (this is the mother) by Gloria Bornstein based on a Native American legend of whales swimming from Lake Union to Elliott Bay beneath the Seattle Center area. We met the grandsons there today so their parents could attend the ballet matinee. Hark, is that BLUE sky?? sandwiched in between dense fog this morning and clouds soon after. The fountain they love so much is closed for maintenance, alas. H and I and the boys went to the Science Center where there is a pretty neat new exhibit called "The Wellness Institute". Niklas and I spent a lot of time with a fun interactive game trying to compose 3 meals for a day that had all the right stuff including fiber, Vit C and Ca and not too much fat or sodium. His take at the end after many combinations-- (of foods he liked) "this is REALLY hard"! but he knows he need more calories as he is a skinny one (as is his Dad and my Dad). And we saw an IMAX 3D short film "Born to be Wild", with orangutans and ELEPHANTS! I loved it. A fun afternoon!
