Sara, Standard Quay, Faversham Creek

Our friends Al and Liz came for the day. The first time we’ve seen them since February and the first people, other than Doreen to cross the threshold since March. It was like stepping back to before lockdown in to old, familiar times.

We had, as usual, coffee and biscuits, soup and cheese for lunch and bangers and mash followed by apple strudel for dinner.

Interspersed with that we fitted in a trip to Macknades Farm Shop in Faversham to browse and buy. We were hoping for afternoon tea in the cafe but it had closed. Before making the trip back home we drove to Standard Quay on the banks of Faversham Creek.

Standard Quay is always a favour place to go where old warehouses have been converted into different enterprises including wine bars, restaurants, a butcher, greengrocers, antiques and other more modern activities.

Adjacent to the quay is a boatyard which is an absolute glory hole of boating stuff and boats in various states of disrepair and decay. Barges, yachts, narrow boats, fishing boats, motor boats, some derelict, some being restored. All surrounded by piles of boat jumble. Fascinating and hive of activity.

Sara is one such boat or you could have Sweet Promise which looks a fine boat from here. Except for a large hole, out of shot, in the stern.

Fruit loaf and damson jelly with a cup of tea called, so it was time to get back home and get the dinner on and the pudding made.
