Pickin' the ...

... best. 

We went out early today in the hopes of beating the heat ... we didn't succeed as we were quite hot by the time we returned from our outing. We checked out a different park for our walk this morning. It was okay but we probably won't make this location one of our faves.  We did see some water fowl ... geese, ducks and some herons.  But the path we took around the pond came to a dead end and we ended up having to climb over a fence or else walk all the way back around!  If it wasn't so hot and humid I wouldn't have minded the walk back around. 

When I got home I sat on the back deck to get some photos of my wildlife (not many pictures were taken on our walk).  I was surprised by this photo when I uploaded all the pictures to my laptop!  I love the fanned out tail and wings.  I've added a slight illustrator effect in Topaz Studio.
