Result(s)!
What a fab day!
It started early with Abi's results. Lord, what an unnecessary stress she's been under this last few months, ever since it became clear that she wouldn't be sitting her GCSEs. And, of course, working on the basis that you pay peanuts, you get monkeys - thus you vote for incompetents and get incompetence - it was always going to be a mess right up to the very end.
Still, when it came to it at eight-thirty, this morning, she was delighted with her results and, given just how hard she's worked, that was 100% all that was important to me. At lunchtime we went over to the Marton Arms to celebrate, having lunch in the garden there. It was lovely to see her so relaxed and happy.
And then, in the afternoon, I met up with Dom and his son, and we walked from Whoop Hall, where they're staying, up to the stone circle at Casterton. It was a lovely afternoon for walking and a perfect distance, too. Once you get there, it's an amazing place to stand, with a tremendous view all the way down the Lune Valley. It would be lovely to spend an evening up there.
On the way back, we took a path that I've not been along for a while and lo and behold there was one of Andy Goldsworthy's sheepfolds! (See my Extras for the south stone in the circle and the fold.)
And then, in the evening, my friend and colleague Steve came over. His bathroom is being demolished and rebuilt at the moment so he was staying over with me. Consequently, we were able to enjoy an all too rare beer together, which we enjoyed at The Red Dragon, where we were served by Dan!
