Interesting short walk
We decided to get out briefly this morning before the forecast rain set in.
Intrigued by Wilsden Walker’s blip of the well on Spa Lane in Bingley we started by walking down there from the Prince of Wales Park. I didn’t recognise it at all but as the path that descends past the back of my sister’s house opens out into it I must have been there before. It is a while since I walked there.
A sign of the times was finding that the well had a disposable mask in it!
We continued past Gawthorpe Hall and the allotments on Beck Lane to the Five Rise Locks where we had a coffee at the cafe. Over cast but very warm and muggy. It was nice, as always to watch the barges coming through the top of the locks. I also liked the one that was moored called ‘Senior Moments’.
After our coffee we walked around Fairfax Road and Falcon Road, just having a nosy really. There are some lovely houses in this whole area above the canal. We passed Lucy’s lovely stall but didn’t buy any of her jam or pictures but we did help ourselves to courgettes from the box outside the allotment gates, thank you.
Returned home via the garden centre as Chris wanted some compost and we said we would get some for a friend who finds it hard to carry. Got a new Lavender too as the one we have is disappointingly pale. The work on the cafe is looking good and it’s due to reopen on the 12th of September.
Home about half an hour before the rain which was a good deal earlier than predicted!
