On their way
Today I had a slow start as I had no plans until a Cursillo Zoom meeting at 2pm. It was nice just to emerge gradually from night into day, and yes I did manage to emerge in the morning, with no pressure.
A nice light lunch and a chance to relax after.
The meeting went well, it was nice to hear how things are going in other parts of the country and to encourage people to keep going and to keep in touch. We're hoping to open up some of our local meetings to a wider group to try to support people.
After the meeting finished, Colin and I walked to the pub in D'mains which has a good sized beer garden where it's easy to stay socially distanced. We relaxed in the sun with a very pleasant and cooling lime soda, not a patch on the fresh lime sodas of India mind you! I wonder when I'll be able to go back and enjoy another of those?
On the way back home along the cycle track, I delayed and picked some brambles. Colin however does not find that an entertaining activity so headed home and cut the grass. I got back just after he'd finished with around 650g of brambles. The brambles are now dripping away for jelly, having been boiled up with the small quantity of blackcurrants which I still had, and some windfall apples. The apples are looking good on the tree, think it's going to be a good crop again this year.
I'd just got home when I noticed the pump in the pond wasn't working. After fiddling around with it for a while with no success, I gradually realised that all of our power was off. Thanks to social media, it became clear it was a general problem in the area so I stopped worrying. I changed from the lazy Waitrose paella I'd planned for dinner to something which I could make on the hob. Interestingly, the traffic lights at the Blackhall junction were off and despite it being Friday rush hour, all the traffic cleared. Mind you it could be that nothing could get onto the Queensferry Road from Telford Road and the other side roads!
Power came back on after around an hour and a quarter so I went round resetting all the electric clocks on microwave, cooker, alarms etc.
Dinner then a quiet evening and we're at the end of another working (even if I don't) week.
All seems to have gone smoothly with the return to schools thank goodness, hope it continues, the kids need the stability of the routine and to start to fill in the gaps in their education.
Which reminds me, good luck to those in England whose results came out today and who are now in the situation many in Scotland were in last week. What's the point of asking teachers to estimate grades using their professional judgment, then ignoring them. The hours that were wasted and the angst people went through drawing up projections and all for nothing. In general I don't blame the ministers, I blame the civil servants who made the decisions. I am not sympathetic to the idea that if somebody messes up they should be dropped/sacked, I think it right that they set to and fix it and deal with the consequences rather than leave the mess for somebody else to clear up.
Keep well everybody, keep the numbers low.
