Poor Little Fellow!
We found this poor little dead bat on the path at the side of our house this morning. It's a brown long-eared bat, common in most of the UK mainland. We don't know how it died, there were no marks on it to suggest that it had been predated. Their ears are almost as long as their bodies but they can roll up their ears or tuck them under their wings when resting. Apparently they tend to hunt for their prey amongst foliage in woodlands, (but will also take insects on the wing) so it's a little surprising to find one so close to the house. They live for about 4-5 years.
