Kingdom of Fife.

We were away north this morning at 8.30 am having had to select 7.00 to 7.30am for our breakfast slot for social distancing purposes.
We made it to Culross in the Kingdom of Fife for lunch time.
Don’t know how we’ve missed this place before, just across the Kincardine Bridge over the Firth of Forth.

The village/town is predominately 17th century with a few buildings even dating back to the 16th. All very quaint and colourful. Nor surprisingly it has been used for films and was the setting for Cranesmuir in the first series of Outlander ( I haven’t seen this but have read about it - did you visit here Nanna K?)

I particularly liked Culross Palace, never actually lived in by a king or queen but striking with its deep ochre paint. The palace, along with much of the village is owned but the National Trust for Scotland. It isn’t open at the present but you can wander through the steep gardens behind where there were lots of fruit trees and yellow themed flowers. Loved the tall fennel.
There was also a Holy Well, up at the top of the town near the abbey, used by the followers of St Serf - extra. The Lockit Well so called as the water supply could be closed off.

We had tea and scones in a courtyard at Bessie’s cafe at the side of the palace and enjoyed a good couple of hours wandering around before heading for the dreaded A 9.

It had been warm but overcast but there were warnings all the way of heavy rain forecast but the sun was out from just south of Perth and all the way to Ullapool.
Had a quick stroll around the town in the evenIng sun before heading to dinner at the Ceilidh Place where we are staying for a couple of nights.

I had a lovely Orkney Crab salad and Chris had Moules. We always enjoy seafood up here and we got £20 off with the Eat out to Help out scheme

Eda climbed half a mountain (Stac Pollaidh) with mummy and daddy where mummy decided she’d had enough - sensible for a change as she is 8 months pregnant! Then they went back to the beach and went swimming in the sea with Eda jumping off the paddle board!

That rain might arrive tomorrow but I’m just really pleased to be here!

Sorry not much time for comments tonight.
