"I am calling you-oo-oo-oo!"

Dear Diary,

The stone walls right behind the house are chipmunk condo's.  They scoot in and out at an alarming pace but sometimes one will just sit there and call with their distinctive "chip, chip, chip".  Are they calling to another chipmunk or just vocalizing?  This one stayed still for the longest time, chipping away even when I got quite close.  It reminded me of the old Nelson Eddy/Jeanette MacDonald song from "Rose Marie", 1936 - The Chipmunk Indian Love Song.  (Don't ask me why!)
