How does Mother Nature do this?

This dogwood shrub is so red.
So bright in the fading light of the afternoon.

Er, mostly that's down to my camera and a clever little magical thing it is, as the settings I chose for this made full use of what little light there was. It really was quite a dull afternoon.

But nevertheless, this dogwood shrub is naturally bright red, produced from soil, water and light.

Now that's what I call magical.
