Lindisfarne Castle...

Warm and sunny, so a trip to the beach was in order and, once again, we set off mid-afternoon so as to avoid any crowds. The beach at Ross Back Sands is usually quite deserted, as it's a mile from the parking area near Ross, but judging from where some people had parked it had been very busy earlier in the day. A few people still enjoying the beach, especially to the south, towards Bamburgh Castle (extra), but hardly anyone to the north. 

We had intended to walk to Guile Point, where MrM wanted to try fishing for mackerel, not realising that that it's not possible to go at this time year. Between April and the end of August, a large area of beach is cordoned off to protect nesting terns and their chicks. No matter - we enjoyed a lovely beach walk, a picnic with stupendous views, MrM had a dip in the sea, and we watched seven or eight seals follow two kayaks cross the bay.

Watched the sun setting on the way home, where cool cider was waiting in the fridge.
