HEAD FIRST

I'm still waiting for the hot sunny weather to arrive. I did a few errands then headed out for a quick walk round Spion Kop cemetery which was full of bees, old and tatty Small White and Green-Veined White butterflies, lots of Meadow Browns being very irritable and fighty and a fresh crop of Blues (extra), which I always love to see. The sun stayed behind the clouds and the breeze was pretty fresh, so possibly not as much in evidence as there could have been. I got home at the same time as a person who'd taken my bike away for servicing and repairs a couple of days ago (it's been idle in the yard and shed for four or five years) and brought it back all sparkly, clean and roadworthy. I wasn't expecting to see it for at least a couple of weeks, which is what he'd told me. It turns out he's also a musician and guitar nerd and he and B have already had long technical conversations and swapped a guitar from their collections.

We're still not completely sure what happened with little Fred yesterday. He appeared back in the family sitting room saying he'd been asleep on a sofa in the house, despite his parents and a police officer having searched the house from top to bottom. He's not a deceitful child, and he had bare feet which weren't dirty from outside, but perhaps he'd been hiding and was too scared by all the fuss to own up to it. I don't know. The main thing is that he's safe, and the rest will all come out, I'm sure.
