End of the Line

The Hayling Island branch line connected Havant, Hampshire to Hayling Island across Langstone Harbour from Victorian times up until 1963, when it closed due to the cost of replacing the swing bridge.  It transported, among other things, oysters between the oyster beds nearby and those at Whitstable, Kent.

Today the "Havant Billy Line" is a nature reserve, with a coastal walk along the old track bed on the west side of the island to the station terminus at West Town.

If you think of the old steam trains that used the line, then hopefully you reach my connection with "Heavy Metal" as today's Wide Wednesday challenge!
