"What more could you want than this?"
It's been a long time since the Minx and I had a day out together but the stars - well, work, childcare, and the weather - aligned themselves today allowing us to take a trip over to Wakefield and visit the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
It was a beautiful, hot, sunny day; ideal weather for wandering around and looking at pieces ranging from the relatively literal (Damien Hirst) through to the completely abstract (most of the other pieces). But since we arrived just after midday, the first thing we did was find a shady spot to have our picnic.
After that, we took a leisurely stroll in a loose circle around the park, taking in the pieces and ideas on display. Conceptually, I particularly enjoyed Alfredo Jaar's 'The Garden of Good and Evil' and I love the scale and vision of the two Sean Scully pieces.
But actually, I think my favourite artefact was this bridge, tucked away in the woods away from the main path. (The eagle eyed amongst you might spot the Minx on the far side.) It was just after this where we found a bench for the Minx to lean on and read while I rested my head on her lap and napped,
On the bench was inscribed "What more could you want than this?"
