Pegwell Bay

Not sure which shot to post. The choice was between this one of kite surfers at Pegwell Bay, or a silvery beach scene shot into the sun, or Reculver Church and tower. In the end I plumped for this as it's not very often a shot of Pegwell Bay appears in blip.

Hoverspeed used to operate a hovercraft service to France from her many years ago. I can just remember it operating before it moved to Dover. It was some ride travelling on one of those I can tell you. Rather like hurtling down a runway to take off but never getting into the air!

Rather more interesting landings have happened on this site in the past. Vikings are supposed to have been here, there is a replica of a Viking ship, the Hugin near where this shot was taken. And even earlier, the Romans landed here on one of their attempts at an invasion.

We call here as our final stop on our Viking Way cycle ride, a 32 mile jaunt from Reculver around the Isle of Thanet, via Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate, Minster and St Nicholas at Wade. It's a fascinating ride, one that never palls. Bit windy in places today, but plenty of sunshine and a windburned face at the end.

In a break with tradition we had coffee before we started rather than 6 miles in and brought our own lunch rather than fish and chips with crowds of people in Broadstairs. We did end with a traditional pint and nibbles at the King Ethelbert back at Reculver.
