Quizzical Kereru

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellows,

Something was going down in the garden. Both of the little guys were out there, TRANSFIXED by something in the tree.

I didn't think much of it at first. There are always tons of sparrows and waxeyes in there. But Jasper, in particular seemed fascinated. I had to go and look.

It turns out there were a pair of kereru in there. These are native NZ pigeons. They are pretty big. Maybe slightly bigger than a wood pigeon. As you can see, they have lovely markings. Nice white trousers with white braces and a beautiful green head.

I like the way the kereru is looking at me in this picture. Like, "What the heck are YOU?"

Caro said she likes the way the sparrow is checking him out in the background.

The kereru just sort of hung out up there for ages, letting me take pictures of them. Apparently they are not particularly rare in New Zealand, but I do not care. They were the most exciting thing I saw today. And clearly, Punky and Jasper agree with me.

I hope they stick around. Also, I'd like a parrot.

S.

p.s. You can see more of them in the extras, plus Punky and Jasper staring at them.
