Mari Gras Fly
I started photographing some fly fishing flies today and for some reason they all ended up looking like dead fish. After several tries and not liking anything-I dangled one from the tail and it looked so much better than lying flat.
I tried everything to get it to stand on end. Eventually stuffing other flies around it to keep it up right. Though I wasn't expecting it, when I looked through the camera, I really enjoyed seeing all of the colors from the other flies intermingling with the black one.
So, this is really a group of several flies that ended up looking festive like they belonged at Mardi Gras. :-) Even though this isn't a purest form of a fly, I like how it turned out.
I tried stacking in Photoshop for the first time with this shot and I like the detail in the feathers, but I did lose some sharpness in the hook. A reasonable trade-off for today's blip, but I think I'll keep trying this technique and see if I can improve.
