Old Hunstanton Beach

Before we booked to go to Devon on holiday, I had booked a holiday house to rent in Norfolk, but then those dates did not work for all the family and so I had to cancel it. So we went to Devon instead as that was what worked for the week that was available to everyone in the family. Yet I still had a yearning to go see the Norfolk coast, and so we thought, why not? 

So early this morning Gavin, Xena and I drove up to the north coast of Norfolk. It is only 3 hours from home so it is not as crazy as it sounds. We started in the east, at Cromer - it was not my cup of tea (the moment I see amusement arcades at a beach front and other similar forms of 1970's entertainment I lose interest). We drove through to Holt and then dropped to the lower coastal road and did the scenic journey of all the charming seaside villages with their flint and brick houses - Blakeney (very nice), Stiffkey (very nice despite the name), Wells-Next-The-Sea (nice but a bit too busy as there was one of those dreaded amusement arcades), Burnham, Titchwell (quite lovely and where I had booked the house), Thornham (had a lovely pub), Ringstead and finally Old Hunstanton. We had a few stops along the way for Xena to have walks. It was a fleeting whistle stop visit but gave us a flavour of the area. And then we drove home again.

This photo was taken on Old Hunstanton beach, a rain storm was approaching and the sky looked very dramatic. The extra was taken at a photo stop from the side of the road somewhere near Stiffkey.

When we got home Thomas was there, he had returned from his camping holiday in Dorset - he had a great time and they stayed in a wonderful camp site near Corfe Castle.

It was quite late now and we were a bit tired from our early start, and very hungry - so we ordered Thai take away which was delicious.
