Olavinlinna

After delicious breakfast in the Wanhan Apteekin Majatalo, we had a walk in Punkaharju esker and then we went to see the Kerimäki Church, which is sometimes cited as the biggest wooden church in the world. It was built between 1844 and 1847, and the church has a length of 45 metres, a width of 42 m, a height of 37 m and a seating capacity of more than 3,000. Altogether, there can be 5,000 people at a time in the church. 
Then we drove to Savonlinna. The most notable attraction there is the Olavinlinna castle. Olavinlinna (St. Olaf's Castle) is a 15th-century three-tower castle. It is built on an island in the Kyrönsalmi strait that connects the lakes Haukivesi and Pihlajavesi. It is the northernmost medieval stone fortress still standing.

In the afternoon we headed towards home. What a lovely trip we had! We drove more than 1000 kilometres.
