Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2020 Wednesday — To Big Sur

Mr. Fun & I have often enjoyed “date night,” but today was “date day.” We were out the door shortly after 8:00 a.m. and in our vehicle with both pups and a bag of snacks for us and a bag of lunch for them.

With the pointy-end of the car aimed north on our compass, Big Sur was our destination; lunch at Nepenthe for an Ambrosias Burger and a stroll thru the Phoenix gift shop were the items on our agenda.

I wanted to possibly purchase a copy of the just re-released “Recipes for Living in Big Sur” (here’s a preview to it): “In the winter of 1980-81, six Big Sur women were inspired to create a fund that would sustain the fledgling Big Sur Historical Society in its work of preserving local history” (they compiled a book). I want it as much for the stories as for the recipes; but, I didn’t buy it after all; however, nothing about this day was disappointing; we savored every minute like it was a morsel to taste and digest.

Here’s our day (some of it) captured in photos— the two with food are under a sky blanketed with cloud and that causes a silver sea. One of Mr. Fun at the outdoor dining area is at the TreeBones Resort and the sky and ocean are blue. Then one photo of our little town illuminated in the late afternoon sunlight.

And we definitely recommend the Ambrosias Burger.

From California’s Central Coast,
in Cayucos tonight,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
