Flood-proof?

It is virtually a year ago to the day that I blipped this scene. The Appleby garage that had seemingly always been in that place . . . was gone. And now we are well on the way to having a new Co-op. It is being built rapidly now, after a break for some archaeological work and then again during lockdown. I think it is looking rather smart. 

Notice however the height of the actual shop from the ground and the channels underneath. Behind the building is the river and so of course they are trying to protect against flooding. It was flooding that really put an end to the garage as, after suffering badly during the last two floods, the owners decided they could not cope with the worry of it happening again. The current Co-op on the left was badly flooded too relatively recently. Hopefully they have managed to flood-proof the new building.
