A morning on the moors

Such a lovely morning I just wanted to get out and up on to the moors.

We headed up through St Ives with care as being a Sunday morning the path for horses and cyclists was bound to be busy.
I’ve often wondered about the combination of these two on one path and about half way up we saw a horse closing on us from behind. We stepped aside and seconds later four mountain bikers came hurtling down the path. Despite her wearing bright pink they had obviously not seen her and we had to shout horse about four times to get the bikers to stop. They literally shuddered and skidded to a stop. The horse rider thanked us very much as she passed.
Three more bikers and another horse, coming down this time and we were across from the woods to the moor. Much quieter, though the first dog walker we met was obviously a little shaken as he said he’d just had two deer charge past him, one either side!
No such excitement for us this time but lots of Meadow Browns everywhere, like this one enjoying the thistles.

Heather starting to show in lots of places and will soon be giving a good colour. I was surprised to see several Rowan trees showing their berries, our new tree had a few developing but the birds have already eaten them.
Not too busy on Harden Moor except for the usual model aeroplane flyers which seem to intrigue Chris. I was looking out for Wild Orchids. Not disappointed, there were quite a few.

We crossed the road onto Catsones Moor and saw no one at all. Came back along the path to Hunters Hill and the village. Forgo the walk down to Goit Stock as a return route as we had to get back for the bread Chris had put on before leaving. Just short of 5 miles so not bad.
Really enjoyed it.

Hope we enjoy tonight’s ATN Choir quiz, last night we did the worst we’ve ever done in a quiz - coming last, we were rubbish!

The poppies in the Extra are at a neighbours house. The bottom picture are ones inside their garden and the three top pictures are ones growing between the pavement and the wall!
She gave me some seeds a couple of years ago, needless to say they never came up.
