Preikestolen
A grey day and then, on our way down from here, a wet one. We hiked up to the famous Preikestolen mountain plateau - along with about 10,000 other people! It was quite crowded at the top and not quite as flat as I'd thought.
The rather grey day made it hard to take good photos, and in general I prefer to be in the moment rather than seeing the world through a screen, but I think this captures something of the grandeur of the place- 600m above the fjord with a sheer drop on all sides and mountains all around- even with the crowds (And I'd hate to see it in a non-corona time), it's spectacular and impressive...

There was much moaning from kids along the way and much bribery with chocolate, sweets and fizzy drinks but I think they were quite proud of themselves really. According to Strava we did 10 km and 500m of ascent in about 4.5 hours- youngest kept herself amused spotting dogs on the way up and down.
We were soaked by the time we got down so after retreating to the hikers cafe for a hot drink we decided on a lazy afternoon in our pig arc "nests", where children did some drawing and painting and probably a lot more iPad & mobile playing while I sorted some work out and husband, P, did geometry problems in his puzzle ninja book - everyone happy as, err, a pig in mud?
The nests are super cosy and dry and rather fun to be in in this weather with the rain pelting down but enough space to sit inside and socialise together... we've drunk a lot of tea and eaten a lot of biscuits so I feel the children are grasping some essentials of what camping is all about!
Now, writing time while P puts kids to bed.
