A wet start early on but it faired up enough for the silage team to start lifting the grass that was cut yesterday. Left them to get on with it as the shearing team were next door to tackle some of the Blackface hill ewes .
By 4pm they had finished the 500 we had shut in last night. If things go to plan they will be back tomorrow to finish the last 500.
Came home and got the wee New Holland tractor to roll the top of the silage pit. The boy on the telehandler was making a tidy job but wasn’t getting time to compact the grass between loads as they were coming in so fast.
This all changed when his Manitou stopped dead and flashed up lots of error codes on the dash. After about an hour of head scratching and phone calls to the dealership they eventually traced the fault to lack of diesel and a faulty fuel gauge . By which time there was a queue of 8 tractors and trailers waiting to empty.
By 9.30pm they had lifted all the 100 acres down the road, and hopefully they will get the last 25 acres in the morning
