Another Bee
A quiet day today with a bit of deadheading, washing and paperwork this morning. This afternoon I watched Battle of the Sexes about the exhibition match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs - just astonishing to see the attitudes towards women in 1973, let alone to professional sportswomen, no wonder they split off and set up the WTA and their own tour. To think that that was less than 50 years ago!!!
Day 121 / Full Day 113 of Lockdown / Day 11 of Step 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 138 to 44,968 (higher no's on a Tues) with new daily cases up by 398 (fluctuating a lot). ONS reports lowest deaths mentioning COVID since lockdown started at 532 for w/e 3rd July. Face coverings to be mandatory in shops in England from Fri 24th July. A report commissioned by the CSO forecasts that a 'reasonable worst-case scenario' for a 2nd spike in the UK circa Jan / Feb 2021 could be an additional 120,000 hospital deaths without Govt interventions. The report calls for an expanded flu vaccination programme, upscaling of 'test and trace' programme, creating virus free zones in hospitals & care homes, and improved stocks of PPE. The OBR now expects the Govt support packages to cost £192.3bn.
In Blackburn with Darwen the council imposes immediate new measures to avoid a full local lockdown with face coverings to be worn in enclosed public places, only two people visiting another person at home and urging anyone to get tested regardless of having symptoms. British tourists in Magaluf are behaving badly by not social distancing or wearing mandatory masks.....what a surprise, not!
