Rakiura

is the Maori name for Stewart Island.  Rakiura the island of the glowing sky.  The afternoon sun was lighting up these rocks on a small island in the bay. Captain Cook sailed around part of the island in 1770.  Sealers arrive in 1880.
This afternoon we visited Ulva Island which is a predator free sanctuary for  native birds.  Being mid winter there weren't many birds around.  I did get a good kereru and a sweet robin shot.  I saw a Kaka but it was in deep shadow.  In the evening the others went ashore and walked on the beach and did see a kiwi.  I was warm after an excellent dinner and chose to stay aboard.  They said the kiwi walked around and wasn't worried about being observed.   Last extra is Courtney again keeping away from the camera.
