Today is a Public Holiday in New Zealand, Marie and I went for a drive out into the country again today and when passing through Woodburry we stopped at St Thomas Church. This is a beautiful Church, Stone walls, very nice timber and stained glass windows. Little community churches like this one were proudly supported by the early settler Families in the area who generaly donated or invested a reasonable amount of money in which made these beautiful buildings,in most cases the whole family got in behind and helped build and maintain these buildings. They also share a place of rememberence with plaques on the wall with names of young sons who fell during the war,it is not unusual to see the names of 2 or 3 sons from the same family,as young as 24.
