The well extension

At times today I felt I was in a Sebastian Salgado photo as I struck an adit into the well to give me room to deepen it. I must have shovelled out a good ton of earth, clay and boulders using the rotovator to loosen the compacted soil and smaller stones. It was hot going but mainly in the shade of two types of willow and a poplar drawn by the water. At one point I used the new pump to suck water out of the well only to fire it back at the mud and stones. But all had to be shovelled our by hand and the transporter broke a clutch cable which was a right pain. will be interesting to see if going deeper will have crossed more seeping water. I am a Piscean after all.

The pump is an Italian-made Efco MP 3000 and very compact, light and surprisingly powerful. The jet it produces is too powerful for direct watering so I run it into a holding tank near the Cannelinni beans and chickpeas I am growing on the bottom two left hand terraces.
