skeleton of a royal past

...still frantically busy, which is a good thing, but finding quality time for some fresh air and photography is proving a challenge.

As we drove back through Corfe Castle this afternoon, the light was interesting enough to persuade me to stop the car and run puff up the three million steps to the stop of East Hill. I knew, even before I took the shot, that there was too much light intensity to the sun and that it was going to cause either flare, bleached sky, or both, but I didn't have my filters with me and I had to choose my settings to get enough detail into the unlit nearside of the castle walls. As it turned out, there was no issue with flare but the sun and surrounding sky was too burned out to be pleasing. I agonised over the problem as it was my only image of the day and decided to try losing the left hand side of the composition. Amazingly, it still seemed to work, so that is what you have got.

The almost painted quality is the result of giving the landscape the same contrast, clarity and vibrancy tweaks that I usually reserve for my architectural subjects.

Depending on time, I will try to make a detour tomorrow to bring you an unexpected old building...
