a measured approach

...my apologies for blipping Anvil Point twice in a row. I am very busy at the moment and, weather permitting, the lighthouse is one of the nearest places I can run to and be sure of getting an interesting shot! I am behind on commenting but should catch up later tonight.

The pylon on the left is the lower of two such structures at Anvil Point. The two masts are arranged in such a way that a boat can record the moment that they are in perfect alignment. Exactly one nautical mile along the coast towards Dancing Ledge, is another pair of identical markers. Such nautical 'measured miles' are essential to accurately assess the performance of ships. There are several around the coast of the British Isles such as St Abb's Head, Talland Bay and Skelmorlie. This may well be something I have journaled before but my brain is addled tonight :)

The entire stretch of coast from here to where I took yesterday's image was formerly quarried but is now in the hands of the National Trust. Quarrying continues in our part of Purbeck but is now mostly open cast and a little further inland...
