Wansford Pasture
A very windy day, but at least with some sunny spells. I headed off to Wansford Pasture for a couple of hours in the afternoon, mainly to see if I could re-find a rare plant, Flat-sedge, which I'd last seen there in 2011. Sadly, I failed in that quest, but there was plenty of other interest in this limestone grassland site which also has a series of springs and seepages.
I found several species either new to the site, or which hadn't been seen for many years, including Eyebright, Pyramidal Orchid and Strawberry Clover. There was also a very splendid display of marsh-orchids, though most were decidedly past their best. I must return next June to appreciate them at their finest.
