Life of Pi.
A veritable blizzard appeared today, I had an excuse to stay indoors as I was waiting for the auditor to come and check my arithmetic in my role as treasurer of the West Linton Beekeepers' Association. It all went well apart from having robbed myself of £2, we overlooked it saying that I must have recorded it incorrectly so it will come out of the un-necessarily large honorarium I receive for doing the job. In the past I've tried forgetting about this payment and I've tried arguing about it but to no avail. On Wednesday I will be wearing my other hat as secretary of the same organisation at the AGM, it usually goes smoothly as we are a small group without any delusions of grandeur.
The accounts certified as accurate(?) I took Mrs TD out to see "Life of Pi" in 3D. Between us we constituted the entire audience, I would like to know how the finances work out as, at Penicuik, we pay £56 for the hire of the Town Hall and another £96 for a single showing licence.
The film was good, very close to the novel which we both read several years ago when Herself had it as a set reading for her book club. I was allowed to see the books but not go to the meetings; now I'm a member of my own reading group.
The 3D experience reminded me of the old stereo records. Up to about twenty years ago, stereo was recorded with a very wide channel separation (because they could), I found it most un-nerving and would switch to mono; it was only Radio 3 and Radio 4 that managed to keep their enthusiasm under control and produce a realistic sound. Today we had the illusion of flying fish zooming over our shoulders and we went a bit dizzy as we watched them do it.
The film is on the short list for the Penicuik programme after Easter, it will be interesting making the comparison between a normal screening and the 3D - unless we move into the twenty first century before then.
