“Little Flower”

Had such a lovely catch-up earlier with Bláithín (Bla-heen, an Irish name meaning “little flower”). I’ve missed that girl! Celebrating her finishing up her intercalated BSc, which means we’ll be going back into 4th year together in September. Feel so thankful to have been able to take a year out, and still get to do the next 2 with some of the closest friends I’ve made.

Went for a walk round Baker Street with Rebekah this morning, where we saw these little flowers. A sign of life - much like the life we see coming back into London! Some parts of society I’ll admit I haven’t missed...I felt really saddened to walk past the shops, where nearly every window displayed the same uniformly and unrealistically-sized mannequins. Still. When will they wake up and see the effects this is having on real people, because of how it changes their view of “normal”? When will this change? It seems something could so easily be changed.

But there is so much good coming back to life again here, too. Like the talent and creativity we saw wandering round a local art gallery...including some original paintings by Bob Dylan! I didn’t know he was that kind of artist too!

Gratefuls:

1. Sophie returning to the flat tonight! How much she makes me laugh. And her wonderful Welsh-ness.

2. Baking cookies and drinking tea, all of us together on Rebekah’s bed. It feels like home!

3. Good conversations, sharing what it might look like to bring about real change in each of the fields we hope to work in. That God gives us a purpose that is bigger than ourselves.

4. Visiting Waitrose for the first time!! We didn’t buy anything...but the novelty made it pretty exciting, since it’s not a shop we have back home in NI!
