The Czech artist Christo died peacefully yesterday, at home in New York, aged 85.

He was one of the first to catch my early teenage wide-eye and has never failed to thrill me since, with his audacious place-making interventions that challenged all traditional artistic conventions of scale, medium, landscape and permanence.
