Peirsil bò/cow parsley
Another rainy day and if it were not for getting a daily blip I doubt that I would have ventured out. I did, and of course felt better for it, around 5pm when the park was still quite busy with late afternoon dog walkers. I think the rain makes some dogs even more excited.
I have never really paid much attention to cow parsley, however walking along the river bank you could not help but notice the spectacular flower heads and the beginning to unfurl buds. And their rhubarb rock stems. This blip was taken on the river beside Pollok House and the plant is on the other side of the White Cart.
I walked through the flower garden and again noticed for the first time the fabulous display of pink peonies which is the extra blip today. The pale pink colour is gorgeous and makes me think of long ago ice lollies and ballet shoes, although the pink in the latter would be more orangey.
Not sure for how long I will be able to maintain a Gaelic strapline. Its fun though and a bit of practice.
I now discover that this is not cow parsley it is a pernicious plant :

The summer stages of the Giant hogweed flower; first a huge bud (bigger than your fist) atop of a tall stem (2-5m). The bud unfurls and the clusters of tiny white flowers emerge, opening fully into an umbrella shaped head - called an umbel - up to 80cm in diameter.
If we can prevent flowering, or remove the flower heads we prevent seeding - and with each flower head producing some 30-50,000 seeds that's important in controlling these invasive plants.
Giant hogweed is monocarpic - meaning it only flowers once in it's lifetime and then dies.
I still like it though.
