Crumbs!
After yesterday's tea-and-cake with Younger Flums and delivery of her portion to Miss Flum, this is all that is left of my birthday cake for Mr Flum and I to finish. Considering that it stretched right to the other side of that 12" plate you can tell we found it most acceptable - even the Flumlet asked for a second helping.
It was called Gateau le Progrès, an almond meringue sandwiched with Crème au Beurre, from a recipe in my 1960's Good Housekeeping Cookery Book, though does not appear in the later editions. It takes a fair bit of fiddling (and lots of washing up) but is well worth the effort and the increase in the waistline. And it's deliciously gooey after a further day or two, should there be any left.
I apologise for the brevity of yesterday's entry, which may have sounded somewhat terse, but, when uploading, the main picture appeared sideways and Blip Central issued an error message, that it 'was not within the correct dimensions' or somesuch and I lost all my eloquent interesting text. By this time it was getting rather late so I changed the photo and the re-write was a short summary of the day.
