A View from on High
There was a certain amount of relief in the Dower House this morning when I opened the blinds early to discover it was raining. It was relief, not because the gardens needed rain, but because I could allow myself to go back to bed and have a little lie in rather than get on my bicycle and cycle forth- I am a fair weather exerciser.
This view from my lawyer’s window is hopefully the last such one I will ever have . It is a view which my fees help to pay for, but no longer, as I lodged the signed papers for the administration of his His Lordship’s estate this morning and intend never to put a foot over their doorstep again if I can help it.
Just as I was enjoying a peaceful time this afternoon with nothing much to worry about other than cancelling Stobo this year for the distaff members of the family, in comes my upstair’s neighbour with plumber in tow to discuss the search for a leak in his boiler pipe work. It is suggested that the most expeditious way (for whom?) to trace it is to take apart my ceiling to get at their pipe work rather than to take apart their parquet flooring. I can’t help feeling that the disadvantage is all mine and much as I like my upstairs neighbours what would be the consequences of saying ‘no way’. This is when I could do with His Lordship’s input. I wonder if they see an elderly lady on her own as a push over.
