Tear Down This Wall!

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellows,

What you see is our garden after our rotting old fence was taken down by a couple of blokes. This is day one of a roughly five day project to erect a 1.8 metre fence instead which will allow us to let Punky run around on grass for the first time in his fuzzy little life.

The poor blokes quickly got snagged up in the snarl of brambles that lay beyond the fence. Caro offered up her recent Mitre 10 tools to them, so that they could clear a bit of it, enabling them to dig the foundation holes for the new fence.

At lunchtime, Loulou came over. She has just knitted a pair of slippers for Caro. It is her new thing and she is doing them for everybody. She told us, "Sometimes I look at myself, sitting under a blanket on the end of the couch in a cardigan and knitting a sweater and I think, 'Poor Tiger'. Is this really what he signed up for?"

I'm sure Tiger is more than happy. Loulou is a hoot and also a very kind and gentle and incredibly sweary woman.

She told us she is lately obsessed with YouTube videos of other people making clothes. In particular, one woman in New York who makes videos of herself making replicas of 18th century clothing. "She wears it too," said Loulou. "She's completely bonkers, and I love her."

Loulou also enjoys YouTube videos from a man in Alaska, making a log cabin in real time. "There's not even any commentary or music. Just the sound of sawing or chopping wood."

Speaking of which, the fellows outside made good progress today. When they left, there were deep holes all around the fence line, ready for them to pour the concrete tomorrow. Naturally, this raised Jasper issues as he still wanted to go out and we had to deploy the leash.

He accepted it okay, but really didn't want to come back inside, even when the sun went down and it started to get cold. I had to pick him up and bring him back in, still complaining.

We've got a week of this. But it will be worth it.

S.
